Typhoid -- 222 typhoid cases have been recorded in Zambia

LUSAKA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 222 typhoid cases have been recorded in Zambia since the outbreak of the disease last month in parts of the southern African nation, the country's official news agency reported on Wednesday. Typhoid broke out mainly in Kalabo district in the western part of the country and Nakonde in the northern part. Ministry of Health Spokesperson Dr. Reuben Mbewe told the Zambian News and Information Service (ZANIS) that 222 typhoid cases were recorded as of Dec. 2, with Kalabo district recording the highest number of 193. He said no deaths have been reported so far and that 19 cases were still under treatment in Kalabo, adding that cases have continued going down in the affected areas. Enditem Copyright 2011.
