Unclean Gurugram: Dengue scare grows as 10 cases reported in 20 days

Gurugram: The cleanliness crisis in Gurugram has now become even more complicated with various political parties joining in to lend their support. What is of major concern to the authorities is the growing number of dengue cases. In last 20 days, 10 cases of dengue have been reported.
Large-scale construction activities happening in Gurugram is proving to be a challenge in tackling vector-borne diseases like dengue. With most of these sites having poor drainage facilities, water can still get accumulated in these places, making it ripe for the larvae to grow.
Besides construction activities carried out by private builders, work is going on large-scale infrastructure projects. On most of the sites, the construction is in the beginning stage, which has resulted in large pits being dug where the water gets stored.
The Health Department, on its part, will take steps to ensure that the citizens in Gurugram remain protected from vector-borne diseases.
"We are still asking them to take adequate precautions as the dangers of dengue have not subsided. Fogging is also carried out in places from where the complaints are being received," said Dr BK Rajora, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Civil Hospital Gurugram.
Preparations have already begun for early fogging. There are teams that have been formed by Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) to detect the presence of larvae across the four municipal zones in which the city is divided. Ironically, the large presence of larvae has been found in the posh areas of the city. Areas that have been termed as highly prone areas for vector-borne diseases in the city are DLF, Sushant-Lok, South- City, Sector -31 and Palam Vihar.
A large number of patients suffering from dengue and Chikungunya last year had resulted in a shortage of beds in the city hospitals and many patients were referred to hospitals in Delhi for treatment. To cover the larger group of citizens, the district administration has also roped in the services of various private firms and the aanganwadi workers for preventive measures.
"The administration on its part will take steps to ensure that the citizens in Gurugram remain protected from vector-borne diseases. We have already begun the process of informing the citizens on how to protect themselves but now there is also preparation to begin early fogging as suspected cases of patients suffering from vector-borne diseases are now being reported," said the CMO.
