12 Killed, 134 Hospitalised In Adamawa Following Cholera Outbreak

At least 12 people have been confirmed dead while 134 others are receiving treatment as a result of cholera outbreak in Mubi North and Mubi South Local Government Areas of Adamawa state.

The Director Public Health in the State Ministry of Health, Dr Bwalki Barem Dilli, who disclosed this in Yola on Tuesday, said that medical personnel from the Ministry, in partnership with World Health Organisation, WHO, have since been drafted to the area.

Dr.Dilli told journalists that the report of the suspected outbreak became apparent last week when the Mubi General Hospital recorded high profile cases of vomiting and stooling (diarrhoea) from affected patients who went for medical attention.

Dilli explained that the Ministry, in conjunction with its partners, have collected 11 stool samples from the victims and taken for proper investigation at the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno state.

He stated that an emergency operation Centre has been opened to collected data on people suspected to be affected with the epidemic stressing that a tool free lines (08031230359 MTN and 070 80601139 AIRTEL) have been established for reports as well as contact for complaints

On the preventive measures to be taken by populance, Dr.Dilli stated that personal and environmental hygiene are highly advised

“People need to be washing their hands after answering the call of nature and stop defection in an open space to avoid being infected by the epidemic.
