Knowlton Ridge in Powassan was the place to be for horse lovers on the weekend, with just under 120 horse and rider teams taking part in the annual Northern Ontario Club Tournament.

South River’s Dani Hutcheon and her horse Charlie won the inaugural Gord Cardwell Memorial Jumping event, Saturday. She received a plaque donated by Megan Sheppard, a former employee of the well-known commercial property owner who built the Powassan horse haven, and Deer Lake Lodge. The prize was provided by Erica MacInnis of Red Willow Farms in Warren.

The three-day event included a full slate of events, including gaming events such as barrel and pole racing Sunday which continued well toward dusk.

Other winning teams included Little Bit of Chaos, of Chelmsford, Chisholm Triple B, Homestead, Weekend Warrior and Armstrong’s Stirrup Trouble.

Among the events next month in this region is the June 9-10 gaming show at the Weekend Warriors farm and the Warren Fair June 16-17.
