Stop & Shop has recalled their store brand frozen broccoli after a supplier warned that it may contain listeria.

The supermarket company said it is voluntarily recalling 16-ounce packages of Private Brand Frozen Broccoli Cuts with a sell-by date of March 15, 2020, and UPC code 68826700926 out of "an abundance of caution."

Broccoli florets should be tightly closed, and the broccoli should have little or no fragrance.

While there have been no reports of illnesses, the frozen vegetables are being recalled after a product sampled by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection tested positive for listeria monocytogenes. Food contaminated with listeria can cause listeriosis, a rare disease that can come with high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.

It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems.

Stop & Shop has removed the product from its shelves. Customers should return the product to their local store for a full refund or may also contact Stop & Shop’s customer support center at 1-800-767-7772.
