Health officials in Nairobi have issued a cholera alert following the death of two people

from symptoms associated with cholera in Korogocho, Nairobi county.

A 13-year-old girl passed away while being treated at Kiambu hospital on Tuesday while a woman said she lost her grandchild, a standard seven pupil at Mission Hope school.

A number of Korogocho slum dwellers have reported illness characterised by a running stomach and vomiting, a situation they blamed on poor drainage in the area.

Nairobi Health CEC Hitan Majevda said cases of cholera were reported in Githunguri but denied reports of deaths from the disease.
