High Levels Of Fecal Bacteria Found At Some Texas Beaches
Just in time for the long weekend. Some beachgoers will share a weekend in the surf with higher levels of fecal bacteria.
GALVESTON, TX — If a trip to the beach is on your places-to-go-list this weekend, you may want to plan ahead first.
According to the Texas Beach Watch website, there are several along the Texas Gulf Coast that tested for higher levels of fecal bacteria.
While most Galveston beaches were among those that tested low, some beaches farther south tested in the medium to high range.

Several were along Corpus Christ Bay, such as McGee Beach #1, Emerald Beach, Cole park #6, and Ropes Park #2, and #3 testing in the medium range.
According to the Water Research Center, some waterborne pathogenic diseases found in fecal bacteria include typhoid fever, viral and bacterial gastroenteritis and hepatitis A.

Other beaches on the island also tested in the medium range.
Cole Park #4 in Corpus Christi Bay tested in the high range for fecal bacteria.
Beaches farther south at South Padre Island were found to have low levels of fecal bacteria.
