A total of 12 animals have tested positive for rabies this year across the state.

That’s including one bat that was found in St. Charles.

Here are the signs to watch for in humans:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • General weakness
  • Discomfort

If a person is not treated, their symptoms will progress into anxiety, confusion, partial paralysis, and hydrophobia.

According to the State of Michigan, once a person develops signs of rabies, survival is rare.

Here are the signs to watch for in pets:

  • Lethargy
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Excessive salivation
  • Aggression

The virus impacts the central nervous system, then the brain, and eventually causes death.
