Benjamin Beach Closed To Bathing

The beach was shut down due to a high level of bacteria.

BAY SHORE, NY - Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore has been closed to bathing due to a high level of bacteria, according to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken.

Residents are advised that bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.

The beach will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.

In addition, Lake Ronkonkoma remains closed due to a cyanobacteria bloom.
