KOZHIKODE: The educational institutions in the district will be reopened and restrictions imposed on public gathering will be lifted on June 12 if the current situation in the Nipah virus infection does not change, said district collector U V Jose.
He told reporters here on Thursday that some indoor meetings had already taken place with the permission of the district administration.
As many as 25 results came on Thursday and all of them were negative.
Five new people were admitted to the medical college hospital on Thursday in addition to the four who are already under surveillance. The total number of people in the contact list is 2,626.
Director of health services R L Saritha said the epidemiology experts are continuing their visit to the affected areas in Perambra and are conducting an extensive study on the source of the disease. "It is a time-consuming effort and we are extending all support to the team," she said.
Asked whether there is any chance for the disease to recur next year in the same season as suggested by certain studies, she said that the matter was also a part of the ongoing study.
District medical officer Dr K Jayasree said that the patients who come from the Nipah-affected areas with fever and other ailments should not be denied treatment. In a statement, she said those who have any doubts can contact the Nipah helpline.
