Kellogg recalls Honey Smacks cereal due to possible salmonella

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WWMT) - Kellogg announced a voluntary recall of Honey Smacks cereal because of possible salmonella contamination.

The recall includes 15.3-ounce and 23-ounce packages of the cereal with the used by date of June 14, 2018, through June 14, 2019.

Kellogg was contacted by the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding reported illnesses. No word on how many were sickened.

Anyone who purchased the cereal should throw it away and contact Kellogg for a full refund. The telephone number is 800-962-1413 or visit the recall website.

Salmonella can cause serious or fatal infections in young children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms are fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain that can last four to seven days.
