University of Regina Rams' Nick Cross disciplined for positive marijuana test

Article content

The University of Regina Rams’ Nick Cross has been stripped of two Canada West football honours due to a positive test for marijuana.

Cross was named the conference’s rookie of the year and an all-star, but has now been replaced by two members of the University of Calgary Dinos — offensive lineman Tyler Packer (top rookie) and Cyril Iwanegbe (all-star linebacker).

U Sports will also name a new national rookie of the year and all-Canadian, in place of Cross.

According to a media release issued Wednesday by Canada West, Cross was tested Oct. 28 while the Rams were in Vancouver to oppose the UBC Thunderbirds. Cannabis is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list.
