Doctors have cautioned people against possible surge in the incidents of eye infections increasingly registered during pre-monsoon.

Masses in general and parents as well as caretakers of families in general have been advised to take extra care attributed to surging humidity during monsoon consequently leading to varied categories of eye infections.
Conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers and other related problems peculiar to the season were said to be further triggered due to negligence towards personal as well as general hygiene.
It was regretted that while enjoying the rainy season, little attention is paid towards associated health conditions, mainly infections of varied categories.
Experts mentioning that chances of infections are almost same across the country during the monsoons reminded that supply of contaminated water through pipes can also be a risk factor.
Dr. Wajid Ali Khan, chief of medical services, Al- Shifa Eye Trust Hospital urged the parents and teachers to keep an eye on children during next three months for timely intervention.
Kids were said to be at the highest risk and therefore if noticed to be experiencing any sort of eye redness, swelling or burning must be urgently attended.
"Same should apply to people of other groups, said Dr. Khan emphasizing that self-medication must be avoided and a qualified doctor, preferably ophthalmologist, ought to be immediately consulted.
Dr. Wajid Ali said corneal ulcers and eye stye were among the most serious infections during the monsoon which if wrongly medicated may lead to blindness.
Extreme or excruciating pain, pus discharge, redness over eyelids, blurred vision were identified as some of the manifestation of the two different categories of eye infections. "It is advisable that sufferer or patient is immediately referred to a qualified medical professional," said the doctor mentioning that warm and cold compresses could be the basic treatment is case of eye stye.
According to the doctors sharing of towels and similar personal belongings must be avoided as infections mostly spread through hands, clothes and other usable items. "With a family member already infected with any form of eye infection those tending them as administering eye drops or coming into direct must wash their hands so as to avoid spread of infections," he said.
