SafeYard is a mosquito control service in Fargo that uses sprays derived from the chrysanthemum plant to kill mosquitoes and keep them away.

Co-owners of SafeYard, Alec and Alicia Winmill say mosquitos are common in trees, shrubs and bushes just like the plants used in house landscapes.

These insects stays in shady and protected places until they come out at dusk and dawn.

They say spraying for mosquitos is important to reduce the number of these pests flying around and carrying dangerous diseases like West Nile.

Alec Winmill says that early July is typically when disease-carrying mosquitoes become a problem, but there are already cases of West Nile in North Dakota this year.

Winmill says he sprays primarily in residential area, but he also sprays patios and even daycares.

The products used at SafeYard are widely used across many mosquito spraying companies including Cass County Vector Control.

Winmill says the spray is completely kid and pet friendly.

He says he recommends use of insect repellent with DEET in the spray to any person whether they have had their yard sprayed or not.

Winmill says if he can keep even just one person from getting West Nile Disease that he is doing his job.
