Over the past 30 years, billions of dollars have been spent on a global vaccination campaign to try to eradicate polio.
The disease has come close to being completely wiped out — but it still clings on in some parts of the world.
Just last week, a vaccine-derived polio outbreak was confirmed in Papua New Guinea, 18 years after PNG was declared polio-free.
It also has a foothold in parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria where militant groups target vaccine teams.
