Friday night relief: low of 11C

As of this morning, Environment Canada reports that the Heat Warning continues for North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa, West Nipissing, and French River.

The heat will continue through Thursday but relief is on the way. Today’s forecast calls for a high of 34, with the humidex it will feel like 40. Tonight, clear with a low of 20.

Daytime temperatures will be near 30 degrees through Thursday, with humidex values rising to 39. Increasing cloudiness in the afternoon then 70 percent chance of showers late in the afternoon. Risk of a thunderstorm late in the afternoon. Low temperatures overnight will be in the high teens to low 20s, providing little relief from the heat.

Cooler temperatures are expected by Friday with the passage of a cold front. The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 21. Clear Friday night and a low of 11.

Environment Canada cautions that extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
