A splash pool has had to be closed until further notice as high levels of bacteria were found in the water.

The pool at Langold Country Park, close to Blyth, has been closed while a full clean of the system takes place after tests revealed higher than usual levels of bacteria.

Bassetlaw District Council posted the news on their Facebook page today, Friday July 6, and said that the clean is expected to start on Saturday July 7.

The post on their Facebook page said: "We are extremely sorry but the splash pool at Langold Country Park will be closed until further notice while a full clean of the water system takes place.

"Water samples taken from the splash pool this week, as part of a robust testing and monitoring schedule, showed that slightly higher than normal levels of bacteria were present in the water.

"We would like to stress that there is no risk to the health of members of the public who have used the splash pool this week.

"However, public safety is the Council's primary concern and as a precaution the splash pool will be closed while a full clean of the entire system takes place.

"This is expected to start on Saturday July 7 and we will be working hard to get the splash pool open as soon as possible, once a clear sample has been confirmed.

"Once again, we are extremely sorry to have to close the splash pool during this fantastic weather. Alternatively, residents can visit the Council's two other splash pools at The Canch in Worksop and Kings' Park in Retford."

No details have been released on the type of bacteria found in the pool.

However, residents on Facebook have been praising the council for making the discovery so quickly.

One person commented and said: "I don't think the council can be criticised as safety of the public must always come first.

"We would soon have something to say if someone went down with an infection."

Another resident agreed and said: "Well done Bassetlaw environmental department for spotting a public danger so early and preventing a possible major event."

However some parents weren't happy after recently visiting the pool. One said: "Me and the kids are infected then. I wondered what they (the council) were doing there today."
