E. Coli Outbreak Reported At Nintendo Campus

The Cafe Mario and I Love Sushi restaurants at Nintendo are being investigated, according to King County health officials.

REDMOND, WA - Two eateries at the Nintendo of America campus in Redmond are under investigation in connection to a possible E. coli outbreak that has sickened four people - including one person who had to be hospitalized.

Health investigators are focusing on the I Love Sushi and Café Mario, which have both had positive health department ratings in the past.

"Since July 2, 2018, we have learned that four people (two King and two Snohomish County residents) have tested positive for [E. coli]," King County health reported in a bulletin. "All four consumed food from Café Mario in King County and work at the Nintendo of America campus in Redmond. Symptoms included abdominal cramps and bloody diarrhea."

Health officials inspected both eateries this week, shutting them down until health officials certify they are safe. Health inspectors found code violations at each eatery. At Café Mario, which is operated by the food service provider Sodexo, inspectors found improper handwashing techniques and improper cold holding temperatures. Inspectors also observed improper cold temperature storage at I Love Sushi, according to King County.
