Kuwaiti hospitals placed on alert amid food poisoning outbreak

KUWAIT, July 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's health ministry has put an emergency response plan in place after 149 people came down with food poisoning from consuming tainted falafel served by a local restaurant.
Mubarak Al-Kabeer hospital has dealt with 132 cases of food poisoning, while Amiri hospital admitted 17 others infected with the foodborne illness, Dr. Nadia Al-Jumaa, the director of Mubarak Al-Kabeer hospital, said in a statement on Saturday.
As per the ministry's emergency response plan, she said that all specialists and physicians have been called in to provide urgent medical care to the patients, none of whom appear to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ali Al-Allanda, the director of Amiri hospital, said that the medical facility has taken all the necessary measures to treat the influx of food poisoning cases and ensure the safe discharge of patients. (end) ntq.nam
