Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took up the issue of health in the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra legislature. While addressing the health topic, he admitted that tuberculosis has gripped Mumbai and Maharashtra as well. He added that the union government will work towards making India a tuberculosis free country by 2025. While giving statistics, he added that in April 2017-18, total 45,000 TB patients were reported.

Under the National Tuberculosis Control Program, 4891 TB patients have been admitted to hospitals and are now being treated. Other than this, the number of MDR centres have also increased which are helping with diagnosis,” CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Dr Lalitkumar Anande, the Chief Medical Officer from Sewri Hospital said that as per World Health Organisation (WHO) reports, India would become a TB-free country by 2030 but India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that the union government will make India a TB-free country by 2025.
