NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has sent samples of the
anganwadi meal that made 13 children fall sick on Tuesday for
forensic examination. The stomach wash of the helper, Rama, who also fell ill after consuming the food, has been done to ascertain what went wrong.
An FIR for endangering lives has been registered and anganwadi officials were questioned on Wednesday, police said.
Cops have found that a woman named Anita (47) was running anganwadi number 27 for the past 11 years. There are 46 children and 13 pregnant women at this anganwadi, apart from Rama who had been working for the past six months.
“The midday meal is supplied to this anganwadi by Akriti Self Help Group in Uttam Nagar. It claims to supply meals to 30 anganwadis. On Tuesday, rice and boiled gram were given as midday meal,” said an officer.
After consuming the meal, the 13 children and Rama complained about vomiting and unconsciousness. They were rushed to DDU hospital for treatment. All the children have been discharged, but Rama is still under observation. The doctors said she is out of danger. The children, aged 2-10 years, live in Maharani Enclave of Uttam Nagar.
Recently in Rohini district, over 25 girl
students fell ill after consuming midday meal at a government school. In another case, two girls were taken ill after having midday meal at a Delhi government school in
east Delhi’s Khichdipur in which a dead lizard was allegedly found.
