Vijayawada: Officials on alert to check spread of viral fever

VIJAYAWADA: Changing weather due to frequent rains has resulted in increase in cases of viral fever in Krishna district. However, malaria and dengue cases being reported in the district is low.

The district hospitals recorded over 100 cases of fever in the months of June and July. As many as 20 cases are of malaria and dengue each. Apart from those, the private hospitals in the district received cases of scrub typhus, which has symptoms similar to dengue and malaria, but no virus was traced.

The patients with scrub typhus had skin rashes or blisters, and their platelet count dropped. Children are most likely to get affected by scrub typhus.  Though doctors claim to have come across many such cases, no cases were registered with the health officials.
