MLB.com | Mandy Bell: Remember last week when we all laughed at how “Mets” it is that Noah Syndergaard contracted hand-foot-and-mouth disease? Well, now J.A. Happ has HFMD. I’m not saying he got it from Syndergaard, but I’m not not saying that either. Anyway, Happ is expected to still make his weekend start against the Red Sox, I think Aaron Boone is secretly trying to infect Boston, but Luis Cessa pitched just one inning yesterday in case Happ isn’t feeling better.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: The Yankees may not have made a big splash before the trade deadline yesterday, but that doesn’t mean they were unsuccessful. “It doesn’t have to be splashy, it just has to work,” Brian Cashman said after the deadline passed yesterday. Cashman emphasized the team’s desire to win, and the moves they made were about trying to win and hopefully catch up with the Red Sox. For those hoping the Yankees would add an extra bat, Cashman also addressed that:
Cashman said basically that it wasn’t worth it to add a bat, considering asking prices/number of at-bats #Yankees would have for one.

New York Post | Dan Martin: The Yankees are catching a huge break for their upcoming series against the Red Sox this weekend. Chris Sale was just put on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, retroactive to Saturday. The issue for Sale seems to be minor and he’s only expected to miss one start, but fortunately for the Bombers, it’s the start against them. Hopefully the team can take advantage of this opportunity.

I don’t know if the bullpen was exactly “fire” last night, but hey a win’s a win.
