Deadly parvo virus has been detected in dogs in West Belfast.

A dog welfare organisation placed a warning on their social media page.

A spokesperson for Pets Lost and Found NI, said: "We have been made aware of a parvo virus outbreak in the Divis area of West Belfast.

"Please ensure all dogs are up to date with vaccines and puppies receive their core vaccines.

"Parvo is an awful virus and if you notice the following signs please call a vet as soon as possible.

Signs and symptoms of canine parvo virus include:

  • Bloody diarrhea - often severe
  • Fever
  • Lethargy - lack of energy
  • Loss of appetite
  • Rapid weight loss
  • Vomiting
