VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) – County health officials have found mosquitoes with West Nile Virus in Vandalia.
Public Health-Dayton & Montgomery County notified the City of Vandalia that mosquitoes collected last month at the Vandalia Sports Complex, Poplar Hill Cemetery and in the Damian Street/Pool Avenue area have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
Thursday evening, August 2, Public Health crews conducted mosquito fogging on Vandalia’s southwest side.
Tom Hut with Public Health said there have been no human cases of West Nile Virus reported in Montgomery County this year.

Public Health suggests that we can all help minimize the mosquito population and avoid bites by draining any standing water that has collected on our property, changing the water in birdbaths or wading pools daily, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, ensuring that window screens are properly maintained, and using EPA-registered insect repellents.
