If you love eating roadside chicken fried rice, then be very careful as you might end up eating unhealthy or stale chicken meat. Recently, Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials carried out a joint raid in Sewri’s slum area where they seized 25 kg of unhealthy chicken meat.
For the past few days, trucks ladened with dead and ill chickens used to arrive at Reay Road’s Nath Pai road, where a group of people used to cut off chicken wings and used to wash them. After which, another truck used to carry this unhealthy chicken meat to street-side Chinese stalls and small non-vegetarian eateries.

A local social activist Bala Vengurlekar revealed the same to FDA and BMC officials, who later carried out a joint raid. Meanwhile, Vengurlekar had alleged that despite repeated complaints, R A Kidwai police officials did not pay any heed.
During a raid, Chandrashekhar Salunkhe, Joint Commissioner (Food), FDA, found out that chicken meat sellers were unauthorised as none had an authentic food license.
When we recieved the information of unhealthy chicken being sold in Sewri’s Bara Devi slum, along with FDA and BMC, we carried out a joint raid where we arrested Nimish Laxman Dagal and seized 34 kgs of unhealthy chicken meat. We booked him under section 410 of IPC. For now, he has been released on a bail,” Bhagwat Bansode, Senior Police Inspector.
