West Nile Found In East Palo Alto, Mosquito Spraying Planned

Officials say they'll treat the area to help prevent possible human cases of West Nile.

EAST PALO ALTO, CA — Mosquitos in East Palo Alto have tested positive for West Nile virus, officials announced Thursday. The San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District now says they'll be conducting special treatment.

"These mosquitoes were collected by the District laboratory staff during disease surveillance," the Vector Control District said in a news release Thursday. "In an effort to prevent human cases of West Nile virus, the District will conduct a truck-mounted adult mosquito control treatment around the site where the infected mosquitoes were collected."

  • parts of the Pulgas Gardens
  • Palo Mobile Estates
  • Weeks Gateway neighborhoods

The treatment is slated to take place beginning Sunday night at 9 p.m. and wrap up around 5 a.m. Monday.

"Mosquitoes will be collected in the area after the treatment is complete," officials said. "If post-treatment mosquito samples are carrying West Nile Virus, additional adult mosquito control treatments may be necessary."
