Mosquitoes with the West Nile virus have been discovered in Clark County.Officials said that Clark County has had positive mosquito samples for several years, but this is the first positive sample this year. The Clark County Health Department will continue spraying pesticides until the first freeze.Officials suggest using insect repellents and wearing protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants. They also suggest avoiding being outside during dusk and dawn if possible, and removing any standing water from homes.Most people who become infected experience mild illness such as fever, headache and body aches before recovering fully. However, in some individuals, especially the elderly and immune compromised, West Nile can cause serious illness and even death. Mosquitoes with the virus were also discovered last week in several Jefferson County neighborhoods.
