The Onondaga Health Department says Jamesville Beach is closed for swimming until further notice.

Nobody will be allowed to swim because of a visual presence of an algal bloom. The health department says water sampling will be conducted to confirm if there are toxins in the water.

The beach will reopen when there are no toxins.

While the beach is closed for swimming, the health department says the rest of the park will stay open during its normal hours.

Certain types of algae can release toxins that may cause skin or eye irritation, or diarrhea and vomiting if ingested. The health department reminds everyone that people and animals should be kept out of water where algal blooms are present.
