The local Penn State Extension Office will spray for adult mosquitoes on Wednesday in Manchester Township.

Weather permitting, the Penn State Extension York County West Nile Virus Program will spray mosquito infestation areas in Manchester Township on Wednesday evening.

Spraying will take place in the residential areas of Lewisberry Road, Mill Creek Road and Raintree Road. The areas have shown to have large mosquito populations.

Testing of mosquitoes taken in the area have indicated the presence of West Nile Virus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all residents of areas where virus activity has been identified are at risk of getting West Nile encephalitis, an infection that results in inflammation of the brain.

According to the local Penn State Extension Office, the pesticide - Permanone Ready to Use Adulticide - is designed to provide quick and effective control of adult mosquitoes.

It will be applied in concentrations significantly lower than what someone would use spraying a commercial insect pesticide in their home, according to a news release.
