The Rowan County Health Department says a food service worker has tested positive for Hepatitis A.

Health leaders say the worker does not prepare food. It is not considered an outbreak at the moment and there is a low risk of people becoming infected.

The worker in question has been treated for the virus.

Hepatitis A is transmitted by oral contact with fecal matter. It attacks the liver and causes symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, fever and jaundice.

Kentucky is among the states most affected by hepatitis A, and some consider it the worst outbreak in the country.
