3 sets of remains found in DC in April ID'd as women in their 40s who went missing in 2006

WASHINGTON (ABC7) — The skeletal remains of three women who were found in D.C. in April have been identified, D.C. police announced Wednesday.

They were all women in their 40s who went missing in 2006.

Jewel King, 48, of Southwest, was reported missing on Thursday, April 13, 2006. She left behind three daughters.

Verdell Jefferson, 41, of Southeast, was reported missing on Tuesday, August 1, 2006. She left behind a son.

Dorothy Butts, 43, of Southeast, was reported missing on Christmas Day 2006. She also left behind a son.

A construction crew discovered the first set of remains in a crawl space under the apartment building next door to where they were working in the 100 block of Wayne Place, SE. That was on April 25.

On April 28, two additional sets of skeletal remains were recovered nearby, in a shallow grave.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward that leads to an arrest or conviction in the murders.
