SIX intrepid staff from Purton Vets are donning their running gear on Sunday to take part in a full 20-mile Tough Mudder event.

They will tackle the extreme obstacle course on the Badminton House Estate near Old Sodbury to raise money for research into Alabama Rot.

Head nurse Debbie Leonard, 35, said: “We’re trying raise awareness and raise funds for research into the disease, which affects the skin and kidneys in dogs and can result in death.

“We’ve heard that there have been some cases of Alabama Rot in the surrounding area, but thankfully none at our surgeries in Purton and Cricklade.”

The six staff taking part also include practice manager Sam Legg, nurses Kate Williams and Kirsty Lewis, nursing assistant Chloe Oakford, and receptionist Lucy Entwhistle.

They will be accompanied by family and friends to complete the course, which is likely to attract hundreds of competitors.

Debbie said: “None of us have ever done anything like this before. It looks absolutely terrifying. We’ve all been training hard by running, going to the gym and bike riding.”

The event is organised to raise funds for the Wiltshire charity Help for Heroes, but Purton Vets are running to raise funds for the Alabama Rot Research Fund.

Already, they have smashed their target and have raised over £600.
