LEOMINSTER — Mosquitoes that were recently collected in two separate areas in Leominster tested positive for the West Nile Virus, according to the Board of Health.
The affected species belongs to a subspecies of the genus Culex, which is a predominantly bird biting insect so the risk of human infection is moderate, according to a board press release.
As a precautionary measure, the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project will be spraying the following streets in Leominster on Tuesday night, Aug. 21: Arrow Head Road, Ash Street, Aspinwall Avenue, Cortland Circle, Dudley Street, Elm Hill Avenue, Fall Brook Avenue, Florence Street, Howard Street, June Street, Lakeview Street, Lancaster Street, Litchfield Street, Longwood Avenue, Macintosh Lane, Malburn Street, Malburn Terrace, Pennacook Drive, Portland Street, Roby Street, Sage Avenue, Southers Crossing, Tanzio Road, Viscoloid Avenue, Yankee Way, Bruce Street, Christine Street, Diana Circle, Eugene Street, Hickory Road, Hingham Court, Hunter Street, Knollwood Lane, Lisa Drive, Marita Street, Martha Street, Oakwind Hollow Road, Phillips Road, Pleasant Street, Regina Drive, Stephens Road, Sylvan Avenue, Sylvan Terrace, and Woodland Road.
