Three Rabies cases reported last week

The Rabies Awareness Body in eShowe (RABIES) says it is only through vigilance and testing that rabies will be beaten

THREE positive cases of rabies have been confirmed in Zululand over the week ending 17 August.
Two dogs in the Jozini area and one in KwaDukuza were identified.

During the previous week, a dog was found to be rabid in Empangeni.

A further three cases of rabies were reported in the Eastern Cape last week.

The Rabies Awareness Body in eShowe (RABIES) says it is only through vigilance and testing that rabies will be beaten.

Many cases go unreported and this makes control difficult.

RABIES are grateful to the SPCAs who remain at the forefront of the current rabies outbreak and assist enormously in fighting the disease and protecting the public.

Pet owners are reminded that vaccinating their animals is their responsibility and is a legal requirement in South Africa.

RABIES said, ‘Be responsible and ensure your animals are vaccinated’.

Those who do not vaccinate their animals are breaking the law and putting innocent lives at risk.
