A WALK in memory of a teen that was tragically killed by meningitis in 2010 is taking place this weekend.

Just three weeks after his 18th birthda Chris Pegler, of Wotton, was struck with meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia.

Ever since his family and friends have ran huge fundraisers in memory of the teenager.

The team, headed up by Chris' mum Karen Pegler, has raised over £54,400 for Meningitis UK and Meningitis Now with the events that have taken place since his death.

His mum, Karen revealed she is overwhelmed by the support they have received over the years.

"We usually get a lot of support with people stopping and putting money in our buckets which is very kind," she said.

"Chris was a cheeky lad, with a cheeky smile.

"He loved to talk, he would stop and chat to anyone and would help anyone out.

On the day in November 2010, Karen revealed that it took four hours for the disease to take a hold.

"Every year since losing Chris we have done this walk which was a bike ride he took with his sister bex and cousin Lauren through school holidays," Karen continued.

"He enjoyed spending time with his mates and family, you could ask Chris to help you with anything and he would always try."

The walk is starting at Pitman Place in Wotton-Under-Edge at 9.00am, and will go through Charfield, Wickwar and Kingswood before ending almost back where they started at the Royal Oak pub.

"We will have collection buckets with us if anyone would like to donate and of course have sponsors walking, hoping to raise more than £1,000," Karen explained.

There is expected to be over 30 people walking with Karen, on Saturday, August 25.
