Officials with the Oregon Health Authority said Tuesday they have confirmed a second case of measles this month in the Portland-metro area.

According to the OHA, the person was diagnosed with the measles Sunday, Aug. 19. The person had been in close contact with another person with the measles who had been diagnosed Aug. 10.

The person who was diagnosed Aug. 10 was infectious between July 30 and Aug. 6 and was in the Portland-metro area during that time, health officials said. The person also traveled out of state during part of that time.

People who have been vaccinated against the measles are at low risk for catching the disease.

Officials said unvaccinated persons may be at a higher risk of coming down with the measles if they were at the following locations.

August 17, Portland International Airport, 9:15-10:45 p.m.

August 18, Marco’s Café and Espresso Bar, 7910 SW 35th Ave, Portland, 8-11 a.m.

"From this exposure, we would expect symptoms in anyone newly infected to appear any time over the next two weeks," said Rebecca Pierce with OHA.

She said there was no connection between the recent case of measles with those in June and July.

Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, and a red rash that usually begins on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.

Health officials say anyone with questions about the measles should call their doctor or their county health department.
