Another case of rabies has been confirmed in one county here in the east.

Duplin County Animal Services in Kenansville has reported a positive rabies case in a raccoon, marking the fifth case reported in the county in the last two months.

North Carolina rabies law requires that all owned dogs, cats and ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age. Officials say one shot is not enough; rabies vaccinations must be kept current.

Animal control officers are asking all pets to be kept on their owner's property to help reduce the likelihood of them being exposed to rabies.
