Yesterday's rain has helped, but Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services says its fire ban remains in effect.

A restricted fire zone remains in effect in North Bay and Greater Sudbury and areas north of Rosseau, northwest to Espanola and Cartier, over to the Quebec border including Temagami and Mattawa north of the Mattawa River. This includes Parry Sound, Burk’s Falls, Powassan.

There are 35 active forest fires across the Northeast. Of these, only one fire is not yet under control. The remaining 34 fires are either being held, under control or being observed.

Parry Sound 33 is being held at 11,362 hectares

AFFES also says smoke drift from large fires in British Columbia and the United States may be evident until weather patterns change.
