SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – Mosquito spraying will take place Monday evening after a bird tested positive for West Nile Virus in Boiling Springs.
The bird was found at a residence near Panorama Drive.
Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement will spray for mosquitoes within a half-mile radius of where the infected bird was found.
Spartanburg County Emergency Management says residents in that area should receive a CodeRed message to alert them of the spray. The agency posted on social media Saturday, Aug. 25 that it has initiated a mosquito abatement response plan with Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement.
There are no confirmed cases of people having the virus in Spartanburg County to date, according to Spartanburg County Emergency Management.
Saturday’s announcement follows the recent announcements of cases in Anderson and Greenwood counties.
City of Greenwood officials confirmed Friday that a person has been infected with a case of West Nile Virus.
Anderson County officials said two birds, one found on Broadway Lake area and another near the intersection of Heatherbrook Court and Centerville Road, each tested positive for the virus.
Residents are urged to remove standing water on their property, including flowerpots, gutters, buckets, and pool covers.
People should also apply insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or IR 3535.
