Solan, September 1

There has been no let up in dengue cases in Solan district, with as many as 800 cases, 664 from Parwanoo, being reported this season.

As many as 819 notices have been issued under the Epidemic Disease Act in Parwanoo, Baddi, Nalagarh and Solan.

At Taksal village, people living in small accommodations, store water under unhygienic conditions, creating a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr RK Daroch said in industrial units at Parwanoo, water accumulation was not checked. Though meetings were held with representatives of these units to lend support in checking the spread of dengue, their response was lukewarm. Health officials had detected mosquito larvae at many places during inspections.

The officials will revisit all places where notices were served and in case, they find that owners have still not taken corrective steps, their cases will be referred to the Assistant Commissioner for imposing monetary penalties. Cases where the situation has improved will be included in the consolidation phase, highlighting achievements in containing this disease.

Of the 800 cases reported till Friday, 664 were detected at the ESI, Parwanoo, and 271 from neighbouring Haryana. As many as 10 cases pertain to Solan, 36 to Nalagarh and 90 to Baddi.

The death of a four-and-a-half-year-old child was reported from Taksal village in Parwanoo.

Doctors are yet to confirm the reason for the death. As per preliminary reports, it could be due to dengue or snakebite, said CMO Dr RK Daroch.
