(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The National Weather Service is looking into several possible tornado touchdowns Monday night in eastern Iowa. Tornadoes were reported in Alburnett, Central City, Center Point and Cedar Rapids, and a funnel cloud was spotted near Prairieburg. Police say a twister is likely to blame for damage to homes on the northwest side of Cedar Rapids. No injuries were reported. The storms took down trees and power lines in Cedar Rapids and Center Point and led to some flash flooding. Linn County Emergency Management is helping to assess damage.
(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A woman is safe and a man is still missing after a kayak overturned on Indian Creek in Cedar Rapids. Firefighters and police say they performed a "swift water rescue" of a female victim from the rapidly moving water around 5 P-M Monday. Officers navigated a boat upstream to pull her from the creek. The Johnson County Dive Team was called in to assist in the search for other kayaker. The unidentified man and woman are believed to be in their 30s. Authorities say heavy rains have made area waterways dangerous right now and Indian Creek has a lot of debris. The Cedar Rapids Fire Department has not provided an update on the search since Monday night.
(Little Sioux, IA) -- Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the three-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in Harrison County Sunday night that left three people dead. The Iowa State Patrol's preliminary report said 80-year-old Richard Van Zee of Rock Valley "for unknown reasons" drove off the road, across the median and hit two southbound vehicles. Van Zee's vehicle sideswiped a car and then hit a pickup. Van Zee and a pickup passenger - 65-year-old Elizabeth Cobbs of Indiana - died in the hospital. Troopers say 77-year-old Mary Ann Van Zee later died of her injuries at Mercy in Sioux City. Two others in the truck were injured in the crash. The third driver wasn't hurt.
(Washington, DC) -- Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says Presidents George W. Bush and Trump released more confidential records prior to the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. Chairman Grassley and the Senate Judiciary Committee begin questioning of Judge Kavanaugh today (Tuesday). Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar (KLOH'-buh-char) requested confidential records on Kavanaugh that members will discuss during the open session of the confirmation hearing. (Des Moines, IA) -- State health officials are reminding Iowans that mosquitoes are still biting and West Nile virus cases are on the rise. There are 18 confirmed cases of West Nile in Iowa, another 16 are under investigation, and two deaths are blamed on the disease. Deputy State Epidemiologist Ann Garvey says the best way to prevent West Nile is to eliminate mosquito breeding areas and use an inspect repellent with DEET. Outdoor activities should be avoided at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active. Around 20 percent of people infected with West Nile will have mild to moderate symptoms such as fever, headaches and vomiting. Less than one percent become seriously ill and rarely someone dies. There were a dozen cases and two deaths in 2017.

Team officials say this was a record season for rain-outs. Saturday's I-Cubs game was also cancelled because of Mother Nature. Tickets for both games are good for equal value rain vouchers next season. The Cyclones home opener against South Dakota State at Jack Trice Stadium was also cancelled Saturday due to severe storms and lightning.
