Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation (PCMC) has reported two deaths due to influenza A H1N1 infection on Monday. The health officials of PCMC said that they were finding it difficult to handle the crisis due to the sudden spike in influenza A H1N1 deaths.
Dr Anil Roy, health chief of PCMC said that there has been 10 influenza A H1N1 deaths from August till now and only one death from January to July. The sudden spike in the number of influenza A H1N1 deaths is a cause of concern, said Roy.
Giving details about the two deaths, Roy said, “The two deaths have been reported from the Aditya Birla memorial hospital. One deceased was 32 years old and other was 48 years old. Both had developed acute respiratory distress syndrome and pneumonia. In both cases there was no morbidity and they “purely” succumbed to the life threatening infection.”
This year, the PCMC area has seen 57 positive cases and 11 deaths. “We are planning to strengthen our management in such cases. With a sudden increase in influenza A H1N1 deaths caused by this virus, it is posing a threat,” concluded Dr Roy.
