FREDERICK, Md. — The Frederick County Health Department is offering an animal rabies vaccination clinic from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Thurmont Community Park, 21 Frederick Road in Thurmont, Md.

The clinic will be held rain or shine on a walk-in basis. Each vaccination costs $8 and is payable by cash or check. All dogs, cats and ferrets are welcome and, for the safety and comfort of all, must be contained, leashed or in a carrier.

So far this year, Frederick County, Md., has had three cats that were confirmed by a laboratory to be rabid. Eight raccoons, six bats, two foxes, one skunk, one cow and one bobcat also tested positive.

If you are bitten by a domestic pet, obtain a name and phone number from the pet’s owner so the animal’s health can be verified and unnecessary post-exposure shots can be avoided.
