The Kansas Department of Health and Environment, in conjunction with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, has issued public health warnings for several lakes in northwest and north-central Kansas.

Under a public health warning are: Lakewood Park Lake, Salina; Atwood Township Lake, Rawlins County, and Webster Lake, Rooks County. The beach is closed at Webster Lake.

Marinas, lakeside businesses and park camping facilities are open for business. Drinking water and showers at the parks are safe and not affected by algae blooms.

KDOT recommends the following procedures at lakes under an algae warning: humans and pets should not drink the water; water contact should be avoided; fish may be eaten if they are rinsed with clean water and only the fillet is consumed; pets should not eat dried algae; avoid areas of visible algae accumulation; if lake water contacts the skin, wash with clean water as soon as possible.
