The Department of Health confirmed the West Nile Virus in samples of mosquitoes collected by the Berkshire County Mosquito Control Project in the city Thursday and a spraying has been scheduled to the mosquito population and potential for infection.

A truck-mounted mosquito spray has been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 10 p.m. – 2 a.m., on roads within a one-mile radius from the intersection of Pecks Road and Wahconah Street; Garland Avenue and North Street; Warwick Street and Pomeroy Avenue.  

West Nile Virus threat level raised from low to moderate in West Springfield

There have been 20 positive samples collected in Pittsfield in recent weeks. The state’s Health Department has also reported nine humans and two animal cases of the West Nile Virus this season, all outside of Berkshire County.
