The West Nile virus has made its way to Chatham's southeast end.
There have not been any positive human cases reported in the area yet this summer, but a release from the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit (CKPHU) said mosquitoes collected from a trap in the "South East area of Chatham" have tested positive for the virus.
Mosquitoes collected from six other traps in August also tested positive for the virus, but those were in areas of Dresden, Wallaceburg, and north Chatham.
The most recent release from the CKPHU reiterated that "most people infected with the virus have no symptoms at all, or they have flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches and fatigue."
However, anyone who experiences severe symptoms including stiff neck, nausea, difficulty swallowing, vomiting, or paralysis should seek medical attention immediately.
