30 cases of dengue, 25 malaria reported in first week of Sept

New Delhi: Dengue and Malaria fever cases have registered a sharp rise in the city as the total number of patients has reached 137 and 195 respectively, according to a latest municipal report on vector-borne diseases. Of which at least 30 cases of Dengue fever and 25 of malaria were reported in first week of September Month and were being provided with the required treatment at city hospitals.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which tabulates the data on vector-borne diseases in the city shows the 11 dengue positive patient belonged to North Delhi Municipal area, 27 from South Delhi Municipal and 12 from East Delhi Municipal area so far and rest are from Delhi Cantt, railway and its neighboring states.

Two cases of Malaria were reported in February one each in April and March, 17 in May, 25 June, 42 in July, 82 in August, 25 in September till 9, as per the report released on Monday by SDMC.

Of total 137 Dengue cases this season 30 were reported till September 9, 58 were reported in August, 19 in July, 8 in June 10 in May, Six in January, three in February, Two in April and one in March. Three cases of Chikungunya also have been reported in the last week taking the total number of people affected to 47 this year.

Last Month Delhi government had issued a circular asking private hospitals and nursing homes to increase their bed strength by 10- 20per cent till October 31 in an attempt to prevent a repeat of 2015 when the vector-borne diseases caused a mini health crisis in the Capital.
