345 malaria cases reported in eight days of September in Ahmedabad

As per the bulletin issued by the health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday, the city recorded 345 cases of malaria in just eight days this month. This means, on an average, 44 people were suffering from malaria in the city.

Other than malaria, the city recorded 32 cases of falciparum and nine cases of dengue in this period. The health department collected 1,177 blood samples of those who were suspected of having fever. These samples were taken mostly from the slum pockets.

Under the category of waterborne diseases, 88 cases of gastroenteritis, 97 cases of jaundice, 99 cases of typhoid, and two cases of cholera were reported. The two cholera cases were reported from Vatva and Behrampura, each.

Following the high incidence of waterborne diseases in the city, the health department collected water samples from high risk residential areas. A total of 775 water samples were collected for bacteriological test and have been sent to a laboratory. More than two lakh chlorine tablets have been distributed to all these high risk pockets for water purification in the first week of September.
