UPDATE: The City of Weslaco is reporting that the boil water notice for the city has been lifted. 

According to the report, the lab tests were negative. 

They said the water is now safe to drink.

The City of Weslaco has issued a boil water notice for all its residents.

According to a release, the boil water notice was issued after a water line break at the City of Weslaco Water Plant.

City officials said in order to ensure the destruction of all bacteria, water for drinking, cooking an ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and the boiled for two minutes.

Children, seniors and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria.

If you do not wish to boil your water, you can purchase bottled water at a supermarket or other source.
